Boys Home

This project was initiated after the tragic tsunami disaster in December 2005 which claimed more than a thousand lives and displaced more than 3000 children in the country. The Foundation initially adopted 12 children in a temporarily rented house.  Now the boys’ home is open to any destitute child who needs care from society. We accommodate boys who have become deprived due to the loss of single or both parents, broken families, and severe poverty.

Thanks to Euro Substrates Pvt Ltd (Sri Lanka) and Vanderknaap Group (Netherlands), our children had the privilege to move to a permanent home. Realizing the limited facilities under which we were operating the boys’ home, they came forward to donate a two-story building. Mr. Dinesh Fernando, the Managing Director of Euro Substrates Pvt Ltd, played a key role in donating this building for the use of our boys. The Foundation achieved a piece of land from the family of the late Mr. P. M.E. Chandrasena and completed the building within a very short period of time.

Currently, the Boys’ Home accommodates 22 boys, between the ages of 7 and 16 years old. They are provided with food, clothing, health care, and recreational facilities. They are sent to the government public schools. Special tailor-made classes are offered internally to enrich the childrens’ learning and to develop their skills in music, dancing, and handicrafts. They are also taught ethical life principles. We hope that we will be able to train these youngsters to become good citizens who can contribute to the society in the future.
